Career Clarity Session

One focused conversation to help you make a better career decision

Compass pointing to the word solutions - a metaphor for a focused career advisory session

Sometimes you do not need a long coaching program. You need an experienced professional who can listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help you think through a specific career decision or challenge.

The Career Clarity Session is a one-on-one professional advisory session with Dr. Helen Ofosu, an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist with more than 25 years of experience.

You bring the career question or obstacle. Together, we examine the situation, consider your options, and identify practical next steps.

When might a Career Clarity Session help?

A single session may be useful when you are facing a specific career question and want an experienced, objective sounding board.

You might book a session if you are:

  • Preparing for an important interview
  • Deciding whether to pursue a promotion
  • Considering a career change or transition
  • Unsure whether to stay in your current role
  • Feeling stuck and unable to identify your best options
  • Unsure how to position yourself for your next career step
  • Wondering whether a particular opportunity is right for you
  • Considering a return to school or professional program
  • Deciding between employment and self-employment
  • Trying to understand why your career progression has stalled
  • Navigating a workplace situation that is affecting your career decisions
  • Looking for an experienced second opinion before making an important choice

The session can also be used to discuss a specific résumé, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, job interview, job application, or other career-related concern when that is the most useful way to address your question.

What happens during a Career Clarity session?

The session is focused on your specific situation.

I will listen to your concerns, ask questions to understand what is happening, and help you examine the factors that may be influencing your decision.

Depending on your needs, the conversation may include:

  • Assessing your options
  • Clarifying your career goals
  • Examining workplace factors
  • Identifying strengths and transferable skills
  • Considering potential risks and opportunities
  • Preparing for an important conversation or interview
  • Identifying practical next steps and resources

You will not receive a generic checklist of career advice. The value of the session comes from applying psychological and workplace expertise to your particular situation.

Can one Career Clarity session really make a difference?

Yes, particularly when you have a specific question, challenge, or decision in front of you.

Sometimes the most useful thing you can gain is a clearer understanding of what is actually happening. A career decision can feel very different once you separate the facts from assumptions, identify what you can influence, and consider options you may not have noticed on your own.

If your situation requires more extensive assessment or ongoing support, I can also recommend a longer advisory service.

Frequently asked questions about the Career Clarity session

Is this career coaching?

The Career Clarity Session is a professional advisory service. Career coaching techniques may be used when appropriate, but the focus is on helping you think through a specific career question using psychological expertise and workplace experience.

In many respects, this advisory service is “More than career coaching, it’s career psychology®.”

Do I need to know exactly what I want before booking?

No. You can come to the session with uncertainty. You may know that something is not working without knowing what you want to do instead. Clarifying the question can be part of the work.

Can you help me decide whether to change careers?

Yes. A session can help you examine your reasons for considering a change, identify relevant strengths and skills, consider alternatives, and think through the practical implications of different choices.

Can you help me decide whether to accept a promotion?

Yes. A promotion can bring greater responsibility, visibility, compensation, and opportunity, but it can also introduce new pressures or challenges. A session can help you assess the opportunity against your goals, strengths, and circumstances.

Can you help me decide whether to go back to school?

Yes. If you are considering graduate school, an MBA, or a professional program such as medicine, law, or dentistry, the session can help you think through your goals, preparation, the application process, and career implications.

For students considering a graduate or professional program, earlier planning can be useful because relevant experience, academic preparation, and other application requirements may take time to build.

Can you help me decide between traditional employment and self-employment?

Yes. I have experience working with professionals considering entrepreneurship and can help you assess whether self-employment aligns with your goals, strengths, circumstances, and tolerance for uncertainty.

Can you review my résumé, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile?

Yes, when a review is relevant to the question you are trying to solve. The focus is on helping you understand how your experience is being presented and whether it supports your career goals.

Can you help me prepare for an interview?

Yes. A single session can be used to prepare for an important interview, particularly when you want concrete and actionable feedback on how to present your experience and respond to challenging questions.

Do you help people find jobs?

No. I do not provide job placement services. My role is to help professionals make better career decisions and develop strategies for achieving their professional goals.

What if I need more than one session?

If your situation would benefit from assessment, a deeper career analysis, or ongoing support, we can discuss whether the Career Strategy Consultation or Career Advancement Consultation would be more appropriate.
